Beaufort, NC | Our Dog Friendly Weekend Getaway

It’s been just a few weeks since my husband, pup, and I got back from a dog friendly weekend getaway to Beaufort, NC. It was a quick trip but so much fun! And just what we needed to close out the summer. Since we enjoyed it so much, I decided to share a blog post on where we stayed and what we did.

Where We Stayed

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the dog friendly Beaufort Hotel! The rooms were beautiful and equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing weekend, down to the robes and slippers. All of their dog friendly rooms are on the first floor and do come with an additional pet fee. The grounds of the hotel were also very nice and had plenty of areas to walk around and take in the views.

What We Did

We truly wanted to take it easy this weekend as it was our last vacation of the summer. We started our day on Saturday with coffee in downtown Beaufort at Cru Coffee Shop. From there we walked along the picturesque boardwalk until it was time to board the ferry to Shackleford Banks. We used the Island Express Ferry Service which cost us $47 total roundtrip. It was very nice that the ferry service is dog friendly. The ride was about 20 minutes one way to Shackleford Banks and Sunny did great! Although it was a bit overcast (and we got caught in a small storm on the way back) we had the best family beach day! We packed a picnic and enjoyed some time relaxing together.

Where We Ate

We arrived in Beaufort on Friday night just in time to change and get ready for dinner at the hotel. The restaurant 34° North is located at the Beaufort Hotel which was very convenient. The staff were extremely friendly and had no issues with us dining with Sunny inside or outside. We chose the patio as it was a beautiful evening on the water. If you go to 34° North you have to try the shrimp and grits — amazing! On Saturday night we were invited to eat with friends at The Dunes Club restaurant in Atlantic Beach and it was lovely. Had we not made these plans, we likely would have gone back to downtown Beaufort to eat at one of the many dog friendly restaurants along the waterfront. Last but not least I could not forget to include Sunday’s delicious brunch at Beaufort Grocery Co. I recommend the Crab Cake Benedict! The food was great but the company was even better! So glad we could dine here with Sunny and meet up with one of my best friends.

If you are looking for the perfect weekend getaway location in North Carolina, I highly recommend visiting Beaufort for picturesque waterfront views, plenty of dog friendly establishments, and an overall relaxing experience. Beaufort is a such a welcoming town and makes you feel like you’re in a movie. We will definitely be back! You can find more of my travel guides here.
