Back to School Basics | Clothing & Other Essentials

I made it through the first two weeks of school – yay! I’ve been posting daily outfits on Instagram, but wanted to put everything together in a blog post. I love buying basic pieces that I can style multiple different ways. Comfort and simplicity are key for putting together my outfits! It’s also still very hot and humid here, so anything light and airy is also perfect! I’m sharing below what basic pieces I bought for this school year so far and how I’ve styled them. I’m also sharing some other back to school essentials I’m loving!

Pants

My go-to pants for work are the Pixie Pants from Old Navy! Each season, they come out with new colors and patterns. I always grab a mix of solid colors, and a few patterns as well. I also tried out some new pants from Old Navy, their Utility Ankle Pants. These are a lightweight cotton material, so they are extremely comfortable! I love the trendy relaxed ankles. Another must in my closet is the Jeanish Leggings from Spanx! These are a bit of a splurge but 100% worth it. They are exactly what the name describes, a jean lookalike with the comfort and flexibility of leggings. I have these in black and taupe, and I dress them up or down all of the time. Lastly, I ordered these high-rise tapered pants from Target and I love them! Another cute take on the pants style that’s currently trending.

Tops

For some reason, tops are always the most difficult item for me to find when shopping for back to school. It’s not cool enough for sweaters, but can be hard to find nice short sleeve blouses. I bought several tops from Loft and I’m extremely pleased! This square neck top is currently on sale for only $10! I ordered this t-shirt in white, and ended up getting it in the other 2 colors as well because the material feels so luxe! It’s also on major clearance! Lastly from Loft, I also picked up this blouse because I love how it brings in fall colors!

I have also styled a lot of work outfits with bodysuits lately. Although I wouldn’t wear this specific one by itself to work, I love how it looks styled with my favorite denim jacket! I also just ordered from Target this short sleeve sweater vest. It’s a super cute way to start bringing fall vibes to your outfits while it’s still warm! Lastly, you can never go wrong with a cute teacher tee! I can’t believe I got this one off of Amazon!

Dresses & More

I love styling dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits for work! They are the best way to be comfy and look extremely put together haha. I love this dress from Loft that I wore on the first day of school. The leopard print is so fun and the dress itself is extremely flattering. I also typically buy my dresses from Amazon (this one is great) or The Mint Julep Boutique (they have so many choices!)

I also grabbed this maxi skirt from Amazon (which looks so cute paired with the teacher tee). I’m excited to pair it with a sweater when the temperature gets cooler. It comes in several colors. Another Amazon purchase I’m super excited about is this overall jumpsuit. It’s so trendy and I received a ton of compliments when wearing it to work! I got the corduroy pair which I loved way more than the cotton material.

Shoes

I definitely have an obsession with shoes. I can’t help it! They are the perfect way to accessorize a simple outfit. My top 3 types of shoes for work are heels, mule flats, and sneakers. Low heels are great because they are more functional for all of the walking and standing I do throughout the day. Sneakers are my favorite when I’m dressing down. But I typically wear some type of mules about 80% of the time! My favorite are these from Old Navy – I have all 3 colors!

Misc. Essentials

I also wanted to include a few of my other must have products for back to school. I surely couldn’t go back without a fresh supply of my favorite Hempz hand sanitizer! This is the ONLY hand sanitizer that doesn’t dry out my hands. It’s like a hand sanitizer/lotion combo. They sent me their Sweet Pineapple & Honey Melon scent and I’m obsessed! I grabbed this half-gallon water bottle and I’m so happy I did! I drink way more water at work now and it’s much easier than filling up a small bottle. The masks from Kitsch are still my favorite. They have so many cute patterns and are super breathable. I don’t go a day without packing a Verb bar! Only 90 calories and as much caffeine as an espresso. My current favorite is their new Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, but I also love Vanilla Latte and Cookie Butter. Lastly, I also linked some of my favorite accessories, including the bag I’m using for work, my watch band, and my favorite earrings.

I’ve already gotten excited about fall and bought a few pieces, so stay tuned for a future post! To see some of my other style posts – click here. I hope all of my fellow teachers have a great school year!
