Our First Dance | Bachata & Rumba

Another part of our wedding that we started planning fairly early on was our first dance. We knew we wanted to do something a bit different from the traditional slow dance and incorporate my husband’s culture. However, neither one of us were expert dancers. We decided to leap out of our comfort zones and sign up for dance lessons…. best decision ever!

We took about 4 months of dance lessons (once a week) at Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Durham. They offer lessons for any type of dance you can think of. If you’re located in the Raleigh/Durham area, I highly recommend them! The pricing was reasonable and our instructor Kirill was amazing! We started off by learning the basics of bachata and rumba, and later on he helped us with the choreography of our dance.

Going to the dance lessons each week was honestly such a fun experience for us! It was like a weekly date night where we got to learn something together. The dances and techniques that we learned will also be beneficial for more than just our wedding, so it was a good investment to us.

I am also SO glad that I decided to change into a 2nd dress for our reception. I wanted something lightweight and comfortable that still made me look like a bride. This dress checked all of those boxes! It was super easy to move in, and looked beautiful in the pictures and video. The dress is from Lulu’s and linked HERE.
