I’m following up my Barcelona post with this post from Valencia, Spain. We traveled by train from Barcelona to Valencia to visit my husband’s grandparents. It was such a special time because it was my first time meeting them! What I loved most about Valencia was how beautiful everything was! I am highlighting below the 4 places you need to visit in Valencia, especially if you want to get a great picture!
Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias: This is probably the most popular landmark in Valencia. So if you’re going there, you definitely can’t miss it! The complex is made up of several buildings including a museum, aquarium, and opera house. You can buy tickets to visit inside any of these places, or you can simply walk around and admire the views. We went in December and they had the cutest Christmas market set up.
Walking the River Turia: The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is actually at the end of the path of where the Turia River once ran. When the river flooded in 1957, the city decided to detour the river so it would no longer flow through the city. Now you can take a scenic walk through the area. You will pass gardens, benches, workout areas, and of course so many places to take a beautiful photo!
Valencia Cathedral: If you’re looking for a panoramic view of the city, this is the place to go! This is right in the middle of the city, so you can see everything from here! We went to the cathedral and paid €2 each to climb to the top of El Miguelete tower. The bell tower was built between 1380 and 1429. That’s one thing I love about the places I’ve been in Europe so far – they’re so historic! The tower is 164 feet high and accessed by climbing 207 steps.
The Old City: I love these pictures because the backdrop is so beautiful! This location is only a few feet away from the cathedral, in Valencia’s old city/historic centre. Behind us is the Turia Fountain, and the location where the water court meets every Thursday. This is a tradition that is over 1,000 years old. So if you happen to be here on a Thursday, it’s worth checking out. But if you’re visiting on a different day, just take advantage of the picturesque background this plaza has to offer!
Another trip to Valencia is in our future and I can’t wait! To see more of my travel posts click HERE.
