Venetian Islands | Murano, Torcello, & Burano

I am following up my post on traveling in Venice with this post about the Venetian islands. The islands we visited were simply amazing, so I thought they deserved their own post. On our 2nd full day exploring Venice we decided to take some time exploring some of Venice’s islands. The public transportation in Venice has an option to buy a full day pass so you can come and go to whichever islands you please. We decided to visit Murano, Torcello, and Burano.

Our first stop was Murano, which is best known for it’s glass making industry. As soon as we docked, we were able to go into a glass factory and watch a demonstration on how the glass sculptures are made. It was super cool! After that we walked around, stopping by San Pietro Martire (an ancient Catholic church). Although Burano is the island that’s known for it’s beautiful colorful houses, Murano also had several amazing photo spots with no crowds in sight.

Torcello

While riding over to the islands, my husband actually started talking to a local who recommended eating in Torcello. He said that Torcello gets the least tourists out of all of the islands but has the best authentic meals. He was right – our lunch was amazing! We ate at Ristorante Al Trono di Atilla. After lunch we walked around and stopped by Attila’s Throne and the Church of Santa Fosca.

Burano was simply beautiful! The entire island was filled with bright colored houses. It definitely was the most crowded island out of the 3, but it was worth it. We were able to go down some side streets that weren’t crowded to get some awesome photos. We also stopped at one of the many restaurants to get a glass of Bellini (can’t go to Venice without having one!)

To sum it all up – if you’re traveling to Venice, I highly recommend taking a day to visit some of the Venetian islands. We had a great time visiting these three but there are some other popular ones you can look into. To see more of my travel posts you can click HERE.
